Game Developers Choice Award Nominees for 2018

The nominees for the Game Developer’s Choice Awards have recently been revealed which will take place on 20 March 2019. As expected, most of the high profile game releases for 2018 managed to make the cut, claiming several nominations in categories such as Best Visual Art, Best Narrative, and obviously, Best Game.

Red Dead Redemption 2 from Rockstar Games is leading the pack with a total of 7 nominations following an extremely successful release in the last couple of months. The Western sequel has been praised by gaming publications and critics groups across the board and also managed to take the lion’s share of prestigious trophies when it came to the Game Awards.

Both Marvel’s Spider-Man and God of War managed to receive 6 nominations, making massive splashes in late and early 2018 as PS4 exclusives. God of War was the top game of the year for 2018 according to several game review sites and therefore its no surprise to see the game rake in several awards this year.

While it might seem that Marvel’s Spider-Man got lost in the shuffle when you look at God of War and Red Dead Redemption 2, Insomniac’s adaption of the game certainly deserves all the attention it’s receiving at the moment as the game sold extremely well and managed to receive a plethora of positive reviews. There’s even an argument that can be made for Marvel’s Spider-Man as the least debated of the game picks.

Other titles that certainly deserves recognition at the Game Developers Conference include Tetris Effect, Celeste, and Return of the Obra Dinn. The annual Game Developer’s Choice Awards is renowned for featuring a couple of surprises each year, so its highly likely that an indie game, such as Celeste, would be able to obtain a win when it comes to the Triple-A titles.
