WNBA Debuting in 2K20

September 6th is the due date for the release of NBA 2K20. Now roughly a month before release 2K surprised their fans with announcing that this version is bringing them a long-standing request. The 12 teams playing WNBA will make their debut in the new release. 2K has been delivering a top-ranked product to the market place for many years already, and they kept on improving on this. This is the kind of actions which keep them up there as one of the top-selling NBA simulation games.

From Playing the Game to Featuring in It

Often during their childhood years, these superstars playing for WNBA would spend hours immersed in the 2K NBA games. Being part of the game itself is indeed a dream which many of them wouldn’t have pictures all those years ago. Most of the stars who will be featuring in the game have been scanned earlier on in the year. 2K used their brilliantly designed motion capture technology to be able to deliver a realistic presentation of the women. These include names like Candace Parker playing for Los Angeles Sparks, A’Ja Wilson from Las Vegas Aces as well as the Seattle Storm’s Breanna Stewart. Parker applauded 2K for bringing a realistic version of the women’s actual play. She mentioned that it is clear that 2K spent time to focus on the style of the sport as well and not only switching the male characters for their female counterparts.

The Best Decision at the Right Time

Their fans have been requesting for quite a while already that they want to be able to play as the WNBA superstars as well, said SVP of Development for Visual Concepts for 2K, Jeff Thomas. Because EA has already released their FIFA games many years ago featuring the women’s teams, this just seemed like the correct decision to make for 2K as well. Thomas also mentioned that they worked closely with the WNBA to create a realistic presentation of the game and the players. Now all their hard work over the past couple of months is completed, and they are excited to launch their new brilliant version of the game into the marketplace.

Expanding the Exposure for Female Stars

The game is, without a doubt bringing added exposure to the female superstars. This is one of the advantages which WNBA Commissioner, Cathy Engelbert, highlighted. Another is that the game serves as a great inspiration for young girls interested in the sport. They will be able to immerse themselves in the world of WNBA. This is excellent exposure for WNBA, which is currently not yet on par with the NBA when it is ranked according to interest and viewer numbers. Any effort to increase the interest in the sport, which will improve the opportunities for future female players, are welcomed. Women are making their mark in the world of international sports globally, and it seems that now is the time to do the same within the virtual world of sport simulation games.
